6 years Old Gelding ( Smokie)
Smokie “The Amazing Horse” will make you wonder is he even is a horse? He’s closer to a human than any horse that we have ever met. Smokie is a well built gelding standing between 14.3 and 15hh, he is 6 years old and has the dark defined grulla markings that you’d folks love including pencil thin zebra stripes on his face.
Smokie came out of Utah as part of the BLM Wild Horse Adoption program as a colt and since then Smokie has been trained with natural horsemanship and liberty training methods. He is trained to lay down for mounting from the ground or he will lay down for you to dismount from the saddle, which is a great tool to have for anyone who has knee or hip issues or if you are handicapped.
If laying down isn’t the easiest way for you to mount he will also sidepass over to a trailer fender, truckbed, gate or tree stump. He has been taught all about leg pressure and will ride without a bridle, he will ride with a rein around her neck or just totally by using your feet to back, spin, turn, sidepass both ways, lope and slide stop all by using leg cues.
Smokie has one of the easiest and softest lopes you will ever set on! Other tricks that Smokie knows is , he will play kickball, count with both feet, rear up on command, walk down a 12’ crosstie, hop up on a pedestal or truckbed, set on his rump and bow down. Since owning him we have thrown everything at him (literally) trying to scare him and I believe he is as close to bombproof as any horse can be.
We have had him camping, used him around cows including roping some calves off of him, trail ridden him hundreds of miles including a lot of miles being ridden by 9 year old Konner, we have ridden through town, right down Main Street, across railroad tracks, through the car wash, used the car vacuum on him, rode him down the sidewalks of town, down steps, up ramps, through Hardees drive through, inside Bishop’s Tire Center and through the bank to make a deposit.
We have ponied other horses off of him and used him to break colts to lead, he will drag anything that you ask him too. He has been ridden around farm equipment, ATV’s, over large noisy tarps and has also had guns shot off of his back. No matter where he goes or what he does, Smokie is not spooky acting. He has been exposed to all kinds of wildlife such as deer or turkey or other animals like cows or dogs and will go anywhere that he is asked too.
He has been rode many miles in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and encountered every obstacle possible on the trail. He will go up or down even the steepest slopes, across deep creeks, over downed trees, and over all types of rough terrain while still being sure footed. He has been rode in traffic, and is very traffic safe around cars, semi, log, and dump trucks. He is one of the friendliest horses that you will find, in fact he will follow you around and even go for a jog with you. He has a great attitude about whatever he is asked to do. Someone is about to hit the lottery with Smokie. He is 1 in a million!!
